MGM dancers
I love old MGM musicals and wanted to see if I could bring the magic of their style of dancing to life through pencil and watercolor. I also wanted to honor and bring attention to some of my favorite actors and dancers who hardly anyone my age recognizes. The four pieces did are movie stills of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in “Swing Time,” Gene Kelly and Debby Reynolds from their performance of “All I Do is Dream of You,” Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen’s rendition of “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” and Marge and Gower Champion performing “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” I tried to bring out the movement through linework and watercolor. The colors were mostly pastels of pink, lavender, and blue with some darker blues for shading. All in all, I tried to capture the famous dancers in an image.
